Black and Indigenous Curriculum Reform, Hiring and Implementation
It is paramount that we are making efforts to support marginalized communities on campus and that includes in the academic sphere.
- WORK within the Curriculum Committee and Academic Policy Committee to conduct a curriculum review of relevant UBC courses and degrees to be cognizant of historical anti-Black racism and discrimination as well as Indigenous concerns led by a team of Black and Indigenous stakeholders
- CREATE and IMPROVE courses that are based on real understandings of systemic racism or the historical discrimination of indigenous peoples, while also looking at current course frameworks and decolonizing them by emphasizing the experience of Black and Indigenous individuals.
- STRIKE up Black and Indigenous hiring committees that are composed of Black and Indigenous student and faculty stakeholders
- ESTABLISH Senate implementation committees for the Inclusion Action Plan and Indigenous Strategic Plan so that we can ensure academic commitments of each plan are being implemented with frequency
